The 2011 Pyeongchang Trout Festival will begin this year from December 23rd to February 6th, 2011 at Odaecheon and the surrounding areas in Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun of Ganwon-do. Marking the fourth anniversary this year, the festival is particularly popular among family travellers that visit from all parts of the country to participate. Plus, the nearby ski resorts and activities by the East Sea coast ensure fun for everyone.

A wide range of events such as ice fishing and ‘bare-handed trout catching’ will be held along with snow sledding, snow rafting and bobsleigh rides at the Leisure Sports Square. Many attendees also enjoy freshly-prepared trout, grilled or shashimi-sliced on the spot. Some local specialties such as trout dumplings and trout fish cake will be on sale.

For 10,000 KRW, visitors can try their hand at ice fishing. Visitors can participate in various winter sports programs for 5,000 KRW per activity. Unique from other activities, family fishing parties are provided windbreakers and chairs, and require reservations in advance at www.festival700.or.kr (Korean only).

The festival venue is located at an elevation of 700m, where ice thickens up to 50cm in the winter. Also nearby are Yongpyong Resort, Daegwallyeong Sheep Farm and Snow Flower Village where visitors enjoy a wide range of exciting activities such as skiing, horseback riding and ranch tours.
